Nanaimo Hub City

Aireal view of Nanaaimo British ColumbiaNanaimo (Canada 2006 Census population 78,692) is the second largest city on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It has been dubbed the "Bathtub Racing Capital of the World" and "Harbour City".Nanaimo is also sometimes referred to as the "Hub City" because of its central location on Vancouver Island and due to the layout of the downtown streets which form a "hub" pattern.

Westwood Lake

The entrance to a trail at Westwood Lake in Nanaimo, B.C. This park was dedicated in 1957 and became a favorite swimming and picnicing spot. The City of Nanaimo built a trail that goes around the lake hugging the shoreline and actually extending out over the lake using a beautiful boardwalk.

The lake is well stocked with trout and has a ramp for small boats.
Westwood lake is 10 minutes from Departure Bay ferry, and only 20minutes
from Duke Point Ferry.

The Blues Underground

 The Blues Underground is a workshop and jam space located at 10 Lois Lane off China Steps behind the Queens Hotel - it's directly underneath Clifford's Wake, the coffee shop and bookstore. The Blues Underground began as the Nanaimo Blues Society's Community Outreach project and thanks to the sweat equity of many of our members, 10 Lois Lane was transformed from a grubby, graffiti covered basement full of trash into a funky Blues Can which opened on June 23, 2007.

Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park

 Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park  Newcastle Island has a long and colourful history as the site for: historic Salish First Nations villages, coal mining and sandstone quarrying, a fishing industry, shipbuilding and a 1900s era pleasure resort.

Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival

The Save On Foods Dragon Boat Festival is a premier summer dragon boat festival in July that started in 2003 by the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society. The festival takes place in the beautiful Nanaimo Harbour at Maffeo Sutton Park and Pioneer Plaza. www.nanaimodragonboat.com

Vancouver island Exhibition

The Vancouver island Exibition Fair originally started over 100 years ago and continues now as an annual event to advance the education of agriculture and showcase local farmers and 4-H clubs, bringing agricultural awareness to our community.

As farming changes and land becomes more urban, we need to keep our farms alive, to provide top quality products and to encourage the education of the past, present and future of all areas of agriculture. Although some professionals show at Fairs, it is the children that most impress the fairgoers.

Bathtub Racing

A Bathtub Boat heads to the milling area for the 2004 Great RaceBathtub racing started in Nanaimo, British Columbia and involves the use of a bathtub boat. Event is part of Nanaimo Marine Festival and put on by Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society held every July by the  The idea was conceived to showcase Nanaimo to the world, with the first races beginning with the "Nanaimo to Vancouver Great International World Championship Bathtub Race" in 1967. Frank Ney, Nanaimo's mayor at the time, was one of the largest supporters and promoters of the annual race from its establishment until his death in 1992, and was an avid participant. He would regularly dress as a pirate and tour the town and surrounding communities. Until the 1990s, the race was held as a part of Vancouver's annual Marine Festival, when tubbers raced from Nanaimo to Vancouver's Kitsilano Beach.
