Nanaimo Hub City

It has been dubbed the "Bathtub Racing Capital of the World" and "Harbour City".Nanaimo is also sometimes referred to as the "Hub City" because of its central location on Vancouver Island and due to the layout of the downtown streets which form a "hub" pattern.

Westwood Lake

The entrance to a trail at Westwood Lake in Nanaimo, B.C. This park was dedicated in 1957 and became a favorite swimming and picnicing spot. The City of Nanaimo built a trail that goes around the lake hugging the shoreline and actually extending out over the lake using a beautiful boardwalk.

Westwood Lake Park with safe swimming beaches and miles of well-maintained trails.
The lake is well stocked with trout and has a ramp for small boats.
Westwood lake is 10 minutes from Departure Bay ferry, and only 20minutes
from Duke Point Ferry.

The Blues Underground

 The Blues Underground is a workshop and jam space located at 10 Lois Lane off China Steps behind the Queens Hotel - it's directly underneath Clifford's Wake, the coffee shop and bookstore. The Blues Underground began as the Nanaimo Blues Society's Community Outreach project and thanks to the sweat equity of many of our members, 10 Lois Lane was transformed from a grubby, graffiti covered basement full of trash into a funky Blues Can which opened on June 23, 2007.

Cole Harbour Salt Marsh Trail

Cole Harbour, Nova ScotiaCole Harbour is situated 6 kilometres east of the central business district of Dartmouth and takes its name from Cole Harbour, a natural harbour fronting the Atlantic Ocean.

In an old Garry oak tree, this pair has successfully raised young in front of our cameras in 2006 and 2007.  In 2008 they produced THREE eaglets in a new nest about 500 ft. from the original nest.  A cam was placed in the new nest, for the 2009 season, where the eagles are raising TRIPLETS again this year!!

Hatley Park National Historic Site

 &Hatley Castle;A National Historic Site and Canada's only intact Edwardian garden, Hatley Park National Historic Site features hundreds of heritage trees, a number of formal gardens, a salt marsh estuary and 100-year-old Hatley Castle.

Gulf Islands National Park Reserve

 In Narvaez bay, Saturna Island. Part of the new Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. There is even a few walk in campsites (no campfires allowed) that have been installed. Previously there was no camping. 

MacMillan Provincial Park

MacMillan Provincial Park  Better known as Cathedral Grove, this unique park was created to protect and preserve accessible stands of Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar. A well-marked network of trails (some wheelchair accessible) lead visitors into a towering old-growth forest where some trees are more than 800 years old and measure more than 9m/30ft in circumference.
