Westwood Lake

The entrance to a trail at Westwood Lake in Nanaimo, B.C. This park was dedicated in 1957 and became a favorite swimming and picnicing spot. The City of Nanaimo built a trail that goes around the lake hugging the shoreline and actually extending out over the lake using a beautiful boardwalk.

The lake is well stocked with trout and has a ramp for small boats.
Westwood lake is 10 minutes from Departure Bay ferry, and only 20minutes
from Duke Point Ferry.

In an old Garry oak tree, this pair has successfully raised young in front of our cameras in 2006 and 2007.  In 2008 they produced THREE eaglets in a new nest about 500 ft. from the original nest.  A cam was placed in the new nest, for the 2009 season, where the eagles are raising TRIPLETS again this year!!

The best of the coast has been collected into this one magnificent park: majestic forests back drop spectacular beaches; rugged headlands pocket miniature tidal pools; placid inland waterways invite kayakers to explore snug coves; and a rugged multi-day hike challenges the body while it expands the soul. That is the Pacific Rim National Park.

Pacific Rim Whale Festival

 Pacific Rim Whale Festival, Ucluelet / Tofino

Celebrate the gray whale migration, as an estimated 22,000 gray whales make the 16,000 km round-trip journey between their mating and calfing lagoons on the Mexican Baja Peninsula and their summer feeding grounds in the Bering and Chukchi Seas near the Arctic.  Daily festival events, educational and fun activities will entertain the entire family.  Whale watching opportunities from boat or shore are available.
